The Sharing Resourses tab (lower right) is organised in way that separates all the submissions and does not make for easy collecting or sharing... so, let's let's share resources here. To start with here one is discovered yesterday:

Here are some words from the masters, Scorsese and Lucas
Lucas on Communication http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwDXlA_6usI
Scorsese on Visual Literacy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I90ZluYvHic
Scorsese- Reading the Language of Cinema http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2013/aug/15/persisting-vision-reading-language-cinema/
Here are some resources I can recommend:
//Cinematography// from Focal Press,
//Screenplay help//
and //Setting up your Shots// plus Master Shots ( in the same series)
I highly recommend Looking at Movies, mostly for the excellent DVD that accompanies it.
Some good free software: Celtx, Adobe Story and Shot Designer (get the paid version)

I don't use a textbook with my film kids. I prefer to have a couple of different textbooks that I leave lying around for kids to reference. Looking at Movies is a good choice however my favourite is this one

Check out the excellent choice of textbooks from Focal Press. They will send free examination copies to a school/university address.

My sources....
For a study on the background of Media theory, which also includes an introduction to important image theorists I recommend this excellent website hosted by aljeezera:
http://interactive.aljazeera.com/aje/2017/the-listening-post-media-theorised/index.html
To review the power of visual imagery, I would show the influential media study done by Yolanda Dominguez in which children share their emotional responses to fashion advertisements. While there is a lot to look at in terms of feminist theory, I think it also reminds us of the role media saturation and imagery serves in shaping our lives from an early age:

I like Bryan Cranston's satiric spoof of filming a one-man baseball show. I find the irony earnestly instructive as we learn as much about what to do in a film by what not to do:

I like "Everybody's a Critic. And That's How It Should Be" by NY Times film critic A.O. Scott. It offers students a nice introduction to what it means to take analysis of film and the arts seriously:

Anatomy of a scene. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/movies/anatomyofascene-promo-page.html?_r=0

Wow--great resources, hard to top that! I was going to post about Anatomy of a Scene--I find that to be a great resource.

I've always enjoyed reading Anthony Lane for The New Yorker. This could be helpful for teaching film criticism:

http://www.newyorker.com/contributors/anthony-lane

David Edelstein for New York Magazine is also very good and serves as a nice contrast in style:

To help teach students to deconstruct the power of an image and develop their media savvy we use material from Adbusters on occasion:

https://www.adbusters.org/

Brilliant. Thank you so much for these, they will be invaluable next year.
For students having problems finishing their foley sounds, https://www.freesound.org/ is an excellent collection of royalty free sound effects, recorded by users and uploaded.
For royalty free musical samples, rhythms and instrumental loops I have also found http://www.looperman.com to be very good. Obviously I would prefer children to make their own effects and music, but these can be useful.
Both are easy to join and then you can download unlimited effects.
